heroslayer: (find redemption in suffering)
[personal profile] heroslayer
Suresh has been asleep for exactly ten minutes and twenty three seconds; he doesn't have to look at the clock to know, he just does. Just like he knows the the geneticist isn't doing much beyond lightly dozing right now, or like he knows should wait a little longer for what he's about to do.

He should wait until Mohinder's sleeping more soundly, but he can't.

Not when he's still so terrified he can barely breath, lungs burning and black behind his eyes. Not when there's lead in his stomach, made molten solely by the fact that Mohinder is burning up from fever next to him. Not when the fear is a poison in his veins, silencing even his inner demons, and he desperately needs some kind of familiarity to pull it out. Something that, Suresh asleep next to him, is suddenly harder than hell to come by.

He takes a slow breath, still shallow but deeper than anything he's managed thus far, and raises a hand, slowly. Under mental command, Mohinder's laptop opens, springing to life, and with a wriggle of his fingers that seems to suggest typing, he's connected to the internet.

Funny, he thinks as he leaves a message for Adam, he could be going for the List, right now. This is, after all, where the Indian keeps it, if he still does keep it, but it's the least of his worries. He doesn't want the List; he doesn't need it, as he already has a specific target in mind. Maury Parkman. As promised to him by Adam.

He leaves a message, gets a response, lies about when they should meet, even if it is only a small one. After Suresh goes to sleep, he tells him; he doesn't need to know that Mohinder is already down for the count. Or that he's waiting because, as much as he needs to kill something and soon, he doesn't want to leave Mohinder alone. He promised he'd stay, after all, and a million what-ifs concerning Suresh's condition if he's not here dance through his head.

Midnight gives him time to get over his fear. Midnight gives him time to rationalize going back on his word.

He puts the laptop back where he found it, not so much as a fingerprint on it, and pulls the Indian a little closer. Tonight and as always, for his fear and for Mohinder's pain, someone dies.
