Comment here to find out what Sylar really thinks of your character. The truth, I mean, not just what he'd tell you, and not just what he thinks he thinks.

Date: 2008-08-27 04:23 am (UTC)While the muse is currently eyeing my head, however, it's true. Sort of. The man has a very strange idea of what friend means.
He respects Adam, first and foremost. The man has never tried stripping him of his right to make his own decisions, like he feels Peter has. There's always a choice with Adam, a feeling of, "If it makes you happy, go for it," and he likes that. Not that he wouldn't be doing his own thing anyway, even if Adam told him he couldn't, but still. It's nice to be treated like a responsible adult, rather than a small child who needs constant supervision. Adam's also been relatively straightforward with him. Anything he has in the works or any question Sylar has asked of him, he's answered without lying or without trying to find what he thinks is the right answer. He hasn't tried to save him. He hasn't pressed a subject Sylar clearly hasn't wanted to elaborate on.
And all that alone is enough to pretty much ensure that, even beyond his promise to Peter, he won't try and kill the man. Oh, sure, he did it that one time as a scare tactic, but he wanted to be sure that Adam trusted him as much as he trusts back. Hell of a way to do it, but general human reaction is fight or flight, when their life is threatened, and he wanted to see which if either he would get from Adam. Like I said to Mara, earlier, it's like looking a wild animal in the eyes. If you can do it and not show fear, they'll leave you alone.
It's funny, though, for as much as he trusts Adam, there are certain things won't let him have, just yet. Mostly the things that can be used against him. Like the extent of his relationship with Mohinder, even if Adam suspects. Or the details of who he was, before Brian Davis and Sylar. Hell, he won't even mention Chandra by name, to him - yeah, he's given him the fact that he's been betrayed by someone, but he won't name who. It's half out of the fact that he really hasn't picked a side yet, and while he's leaning towards Adam's rather than Team Petrelli, he doesn't want to give Adam anything to use against him, if he changes his mind. And it's half out of the fact that the idea of people knowing him scares the hell out of him.
Mohinder already knows him. Peter has seen more than he wants him to. Bennet called him on being in love with Suresh. So he desperately needs to have someone that will let him hold onto a few of his secrets without pressing. He might tell Adam everything and anything, eventually, but right now, the guy is the only person who talks to him who isn't desperate to know what goes on inside his head. And he values his privacy. A lot. It's why, at the moment, Mohinder's the only person who knows he lives in Queens, not at Gray and Sons in Manhattan. He needs to have somewhere to retreat where he can just be and not have to worry about the end of the world, or choosing a side, or ...
For as much as Sylar won't give Adam, though, there's a lot he'd be privy to that he wouldn't tell anyone else. The biggest of which being his schemes, whatever they might be - which is amazing, because I don't think he'd tell anyone else and not just because he'd probably get slapped on the wrist. More because his plans are his own. He's the kind of guy that would rather be tortured than give up what he was planning because the idea is his, damn it, and no you can't have it! Well, that and the fact that, if you want something done right, do it yourself. But he trusts Adam not to steal his plans or screw them up. The guy is competent and sharp, and he can't say that about many people. In fact, the only other person he might say that about is Mohinder, so that's saying a lot.
And, finally, Sylar's sort of fascinated by Adam, and not just for his brains. The guy is old. There's so many things he could learn from him. So many stories Adam could tell him. And he's sort of like a small child, on that front, sitting down in front of their grandfather and demanding to hear stories about the good old days.
So .... yeah.

Date: 2008-08-27 05:49 am (UTC)Whether Adam is secretly manipulating Sylar into liking him so he has some form of defense if the time comes when he’s under attack, or if he just plain likes Sylar for being more accepting than most on the case of murder, even I don’t know that. It’s probably both. Like friends with superpower-involved benefits.
He respects Sylars need for privacy, just as he likes his own. Doesn’t force him in any particular direction, because he’s realized by now that Sylar is not the type to be pushed without extreme retaliation. He’ll attempt to influence certain ways of thought though, no doubt, if it’ll benefit him, or both of them, or the general population in the end.
Adam hasn’t lied to him yet, because Sylar would know, and while that creeps him out, an angry-at-being-lied-to Sylar is sometimes worse than the truth. So there’s a certain amount of
fearwariness there. And even though he won’t outright lie to Sylar, he’s not going to tell him everything. Like how he’s already read his file from the Company, knows about Brian Davis and Chandra, and his real name, all that fun stuff. Burned the file of course, but if Sylar hasn’t yet told him about any of those things, it’s no doubt a touchy subject, and he won’t intrude on it. After all, he already knows, so letting Sylar think Adam trusts him enough to not know anything about him is great for both of them. So long as he doesn’t find out.
If Sylar did pick team Petrelli as opposed to him… I don’t think he’d use either of those things against him, and rather point out the bad things about the Petrelli’s. You can’t win someone over if they’re psychotic and angry at you.
And he certainly won’t try to save Sylar, because he hates it when that’s done to him. There’s a mutual level of understanding on the I like who I am right now, thank you level.
Adam is lonely. Very much so, as much as he wouldn’t admit it. He’s used to being alone, but that doesn’t mean he finds it enjoyable. So Sylar’s company, since it was the first since the virus was released? Extremely welcome.
And yes, he still finds it a shame Mohinder would probably be appalled at the idea of a threesome. In a selfish way, he’d let Sylar tinker around in his head if it meant Sylar would be immortal with him. Then they really WOULD be best friends forever, key word being forever.
But being immortal isn’t all it’s cracked up to be, as he already knows. And if Sylar loves someone, which Adam doesn’t know if it’s real love or just protective lust just yet, then really, immortality is one of the worst things you can have. Because you’ll watch them grow old and die, and you can’t join them. You can delay it for them, but even then, it’s not a permanent solution. So he’s not letting him copy his ability for HIS benefit. And because he’s sort of anxious about having him poke around his brain.
If Sylar was to ever ask Adam for help or something, himself or Mohinder mortally wounded or whatever, premature their time, then he’d certainly help. Really, at this stage in the game, he’d probably help anyone, because their survival is necessary to Adam’s plans.
Adam will occasionally act strangely in front of Sylar, because Sylar’s really the only one he can be like that in front of. With Monica and Angela it’s all ‘letz get down to biznezz.’ But Sylar’s the only one who will meet with him for the sheer sake of company. And also because well, Adam’s gone a little nuts because of what happened to Hiro, he’s a little less caring about some things like keeping up appearances of sanity, when said company’s sanity is also questionable.
And maybe one day, Adam will probably tell Sylar his stories, because the only one who’s listened to them before would probably be Elle during those days at the Company. Who probably would shock him if she didn’t like how they ended.
…Yeeeep. XD Totally wrote this out of order and pasted it all together, so if anything doesn’t make sense… My bad.
